At least eight men were injured in a brawl that broke out in a Mongkok disco early yesterday and spilled out into the street.

The fight, involving some 50 people, erupted about 7.30am in the New One disco in Mongkok Road. Some of the fighters were armed with sticks and flashlights.

The fight was over by the time police arrived but they found seven men inside the disco suffering from head and arm injuries.

The men, aged 23 to 54, were taken to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment.

Another man, 19, who investigators suspect was also involved in the fight, went to the same hospital to seek treatment.

Two men, aged 23 and 30, were in a stable condition in the hospital last night. The other six men were discharged after treatment.

Anti-triad officers from Mongkok police station have been questioning the injured men. No one was arrested.

A 38-year-old male employee told officers some of those involved in the brawl bumped into each other on the dance floor, leading to a heated argument before the fight broke out.

Meanwhile, officers were sent to Yau Ma Tei after 20 gangsters wielding weapons such as knives and water pipes were seen walking towards Mongkok along Shanghai Street near the junction of Dundas Street about 5am.

Police said the gangsters fled when the officers arrived.

Officers found seven knives, three water pipes, a baseball bat and three folding chairs in three different locations in Shanghai Street.

Police said there was no indication the two cases were linked.
