THE battered US airline industry may turn a US$2 billion profit next year after years of huge losses, a trade association has predicted.

''I am beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel and some hope for profits,'' David Swierenga, chief economist for the Air Transport Association of America, told the International Air Transport Association. He attributed the improvement to capacity cuts, higher ticket prices and a better economy.
