Nick Cheung Chi-kwong attended several night schools. After completing his O-Levels, he started working in the music industry. In 1990, he sang a duet with Rita Carpio called Accidental Love Needs No Further Acquaintance . The song became an instant hit and put them in the limelight, kicking off Cheung's singing and acting career.

He has been with TVB Jade ever since. His first television drama was Heartbreak Blues (1992), co-starring Sean Lau Ching-wan and Irene Wan Pik-ha.
