Vested interest makes Boks look good

Watching the Springboks in action against the All Blacks on Saturday, I couldn't help but marvel at how much better they looked in their traditional uniform.

Along with England and France, the Springboks sported some sort of rashvest for the World Cup. With England in particular, pasty white skin beneath the shiny white skin-tight shirt, they looked ridiculous. And somehow they made Paul Grayson look fat, which I am sure he's not. I certainly don't have the figure or the inclination to buy the shirt to support my team.

The only England player who remotely looked the part was Jason Robinson.

Judging by the magnificent performance by the Springboks in their new kit, and the dismal performance by England during their tour Down Under, it seems good rugby performances have more to do with teamwork, good forward play, penetration from the backs, good defence and less to do with trying to imitate a surfer in a wetsuit. I only hope this rashvest thing is a fad.
