Sport casts its net

When you walk past Queensway, Admiralty, this weekend, don't panic if you see 'Spidermen' climbing up one of the walls of One Pacific Place.

It is actually a new alternative sports competition launched by adidas.

Last weekend, 40 athletes from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan went through their paces, racing up a 100-metre vertical track set outside the well-known commercial building.

The event was also staged in Osaka, Japan, at the same time.

Hong Kong athlete Wong Wai-kin, 33, set the best time of 7 minutes, 5 seconds.

Lisa Cheng, 18, the only female athlete, clocked 10 minutes, 4 seconds. She and Wong advanced to the next round, where 16 competitors will battle it out for a place in Sunday's finals. The winner will receive a US$10,000 cash prize.
