allan adapts easily to new role

Retired trainer Ivan Allan has seamlessly made the transition from Hong Kong Jockey Club bete noir to favoured bloodstock agent with his first purchases on behalf of the club at Deauville in France.

The ink was barely dry on the Jockey Club's announcement that Allan and American riding legend Cash Asmussen would join the Australia-New Zealand connection of Bill Burns and John Cameron as the buying team for the club's International Sale, before the first purchase by Allan as the Club's European agent on the weekend.

The hammer fell at Euro90,000 ($862,000) for a Barathea yearling colt out of a mare by Machiavellian, dam sire of highly exciting four-year-old Scintillation who was trained by Allan until the trainer's retirement in June.

Allan followed that up yesterday with Euro220,000 for a colt by Acatenango.

Both will be prepared in Europe before being offered at the 2005 Hong Kong International Sale.
