'Sick' diving star skips events, and shops

Diving sensation Guo Jingjing took the morning off from the medallists' tour yesterday due to illness, but was seen shopping with her rumoured boyfriend, fellow diver Tian Liang, in the afternoon.

Guo did not appear with medal winners at Golden Bauhinia Square or the Tsing Ma Bridge, and she was also absent from a group lunch at the JW Marriott hotel.

The Home Affairs Department said Guo was not feeling well, but she was seen leaving the Intercontinental Grand Stanford hotel - where the group is staying - while the other medallists were attending media events, shaking hands and signing autographs.

Tian attended the morning events but was seen leaving early from a lunch at the Marriott.

Guo and Tian were later spotted shopping for electronic goods in Mongkok. Tian bought a rice cooker and was given a digital camera as a gift.

The pair had tried to shop for gold in Central on Monday, but left empty-handed after being mobbed by the media.

Guo, who has an eye condition, said the camera flashes had 'made my eyes blurry'.

Today, the gold medallists will meet Hong Kong athletes, visit Chinese University and Hong Kong University and take part in demonstration events at venues in Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui.

The group will end their four-day trip by taking in the horse racing at the Happy Valley track.
