Exhibitors add sparkle to attract new buyers
EXHIBITORS AT THE Hong Kong Jewellery and Watch Fair are looking forward to sparkling sales and an opportunity to meet new buyers.
Long-time exhibitor Wing Cheong Jewellery and Jade is confident the show will bring good results, having seen a consistent improvement in sales figures from previous shows it attended this year.
'The September fair is one of the biggest events. The exhibitors are actually quite aggressive. We are confident of the sales in the fair this year,' said marketing manager Joanne Chan.
The company will focus on two main lines - diamond jewellery with invisible settings and South Sea pearl jewellery.
'Invisible settings are popular in the United States because people there like simpler and more traditional styles. But in Europe and Southeast Asia, they are not as popular.'
As a result, the company has produced more trendy and modern invisible setting jewellery to woo European and Southeast Asian buyers.
New Concept Jewelry also anticipates a good show as the 'atmosphere of the jewellery industry' has been good in recent months.
'September is usually the best month for our company and also other jewellery companies,' said managing director Mak Kam-chuen. The company designs and manufactures fashionable platinum PT900 and 18-carat gold jewellery set with diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones. Japan, Europe and the United States take up 70 per cent of the company's exports, with the rest distributed to Taiwan and the Middle East.
'We are expecting new clients from the fair and we are preparing more samples than usual to show them,' Mr Mak said.
Lorenzo Jewelry's director, Alfonsa Au, agreed that September was the best month, as it was the time of year the company expected orders for Christmas and Thanksgiving.
'Our major market is the United States,' said Ms Au. 'We want to expand to Europe because we're concerned that the election in America may have an impact on our sales to the market.'
This year, Lorenzo will showcase semi-precious stones jewellery featuring exotic and unique gemstones.
Ms Au said she hoped the unique, high-quality products would attract more buyers from Europe and other regions.
Prestige Jewellery started its preparations for the show four months ago.
Export assistant Jennifer Chang said orders stopped last year for a while because of Sars.
'This year it should be much better,' said Ms Chang. 'We are expecting a 30 per cent increase in sales.'
