The third floor of the Sands Macao has opened, giving punters four new dining options. In addition to the two outlets (888 Las Vegas Buffet and the Moonlight Food Court) open from day one at the Sands, there is now Cantonese restaurant Golden Court, the Macanese Restaurante Perola (below), Copa Steakhouse, said to be the first American steakhouse in Macau, and the Ruby Room featuring Shanghainese cuisine.

Specialities at the Golden Court include Cantonese-style fried chicken ($98 for half, $196 for the whole bird) and braised superior bird's nest with crab meat and crab coral ($600). Restaurante Perola features a deep-fried cod-fish ball appetiser ($100) and seafood served in a cataplana or copper pot ($350). At the Copa Steakhouse, the beef comes as filet, rib-eye, New York strip, porterhouse and T-bone (priced from $150 for the 240 gram filet to $700 for the 1kg porterhouse). There are also non-beef options. At the Ruby Room, try the river perch with soy bean sprouts in a spicy sauce ($148).

The 888 Las Vegas Buffet, which is on the second floor of the casino, continues to serve lunch and dinner buffets featuring cuisines from around the world. The Moonlight Food Market, on the first floor near the main gaming floor, is open around the clock and offers light Chinese dishes, including dim sum.

The Sands Macao is at Avenida da Amizade, Macau, tel: 853 883 388. For reservations call 853 983 8222 or e-mail [email protected]. All restaurants have a 10 per cent service charge.
