Icebreaker to visit
The Chinese research vessel and icebreaker Xuelong will arrive in Hong Kong for a three-day visit late this month and play host to 900 students and about 3,000 members of the public before leaving for the South Pole. The 21,025-tonne will berth at Ocean Terminal.
$2m in cigarettes seized
Customs officers seized cigarettes worth about $2.1 million at the Lok Ma Chau Control Point. A lorry declared to be carrying 350 cartons of glasses was found - through an X-ray inspection - to be carrying 1.4 million sticks of dutiable cigarettes. The 42-year-old lorry driver was detained.
