THIS week's most sought-after invitation is to the dinner being hosted tomorrow night by Regent GM Thomas Axmacher and Cartier to celebrate the reopening of Plume, one of the toniest restaurants in town.

Eighty select invitations have already gone out for the black-tie affair - so any social aspirants who haven't received one had better leave town fast.

It's all systems go at The Regent, where the elegant lady by the waterfront is just emerging from a major facelift.

And the changes are not all cosmetic. In a surprising move, Axmacher has appointed long-standing catering manager Tim Cumming as public relations manager - an area where it has been generally felt The Regent needed a major overhaul.

Having kept the sensitive egos of tai-tais satisfied at banquets, Cumming should find dealing with the media hordes a breeze.
