Wreath laid to remember HK victims

About 70 people met for a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hong Kong Rugby Club yesterday to mark the second anniversary of the Bali blasts.

The attack killed 11 people from Hong Kong, most of whom were visiting the island as part of the Vandals rugby team, which was taking part in a Rugby 10s tournament at the time.

The chairman of Hong Kong Football Club's rugby section, Craig Wootten, said the ceremony was attended by survivors as well as friends and relatives of those killed and injured.

The service, held near a plaque commemorating the victims of the blasts in the club's foyer, was held at 11am to coincide with another ceremony at the site of the attacks in Kuta.

'The union tried to keep it pretty low-key,' Mr Wootten said.

'If you were here at the time it happened then it is something you will never forget.'

He said with Hong Kong's transient population there were a lot of people involved who no longer resided here.

He and the club had been answering their e-mails and organising wreaths on their behalf.

A brunch gathering, named after one of those killed, Clive Walton, also was held on Sunday and was attended by about 150 people, he said.
