The Environmental Protection Department has recorded 35 convictions of people breaching anti-pollution laws last month, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

It said 12 cases related to the violation of the Noise Control Ordinance, while 10 were in breach of the Waste Disposal Ordinance. There were also seven convictions under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance and six in breach of the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.

The spokesman said two companies were fined $20,000 ? the heaviest fine during the month. The companies had been using powered mechanical equipment in breach of permit conditions and had carried out piling without a valid noise permit.
