Hayes won the first heat of the morning with Asset who showed he has clearly progressed since last season.

The multiple group winner from Argentina only competed once last term, when finishing last in the Sha Tin Vase. His work has picked up now and he is working in good order.

Stablemate Native Dream finished strongly after turning into the straight near the tail of field and he too is working in fine fashion.

David Ferraris has a nice prospect with Gaucho who took out the second trial under a quiet ride from Anthony Delpech. He went to the line with plenty in reserve and looks a potential future winner.

There was a lot to like about the manner in which third-placed Super Fantasy came home down the stretch and the quality of his work has picked up markedly. Ferraris also won the fourth heat on the all-weather with Forever Charming (rated 29) who led from barrier to post.

Given his rating it was a decent effort and there should be a race for him in the bottom grade.

Derek Cruz's Ace King was the winner of the fifth batch, held over 1,000 metres, but the one to note from the trial was Brilliant Flash, who finished third.

He was never pressured at any stage and came through the trial nicely. He arrived from New Zealand having won three of nine starts and looks a decent prospect.

Francis Lui Kin-wai's Hikari was pushed out to win the sixth heat but responded well to urging from Brett Doyle and looks a handy sort.

Travelling a shade better in second was Fortune Warrior, who could have won if allowed more rein.

Tony Cruz has a nice prospect with Captain Harry who won the seventh heat in good style.

He is still doing a few things wrong but has plenty of potential and is one to keep a closer watch on.

The best one to note from the final trial was Sun And Zameen, who finished second to Tourelle Lad, but was never under any pressure from Brett Prebble.

He appears to have above average ability.
