RTHK to test digital system

RTHK is launching the second phase test of digital broadcasting on the Eureka 147 DAB Band III system to further explore the new standard.

During the trial, programmes of AM and FM stations will be relayed. A set of programmes tailor-made for the DAB Band will be launched soon.

Mr Simon Heung Sai-ho, RTHK deputy production manager of production services, said digital audio broadcasting would raise broadcasting quality and bring in multimedia content and value-added services to the public.

'The DAB system serves an area by using one single frequency. This significantly expands the number of channels available and allows for a more efficient use of available spectrum,' said Mr Heung.

'More radio channels can be supported and more diversified services will be offered.'
