Teacher pleads not guilty to assaulting child

A teacher yesterday pleaded not guilty to assaulting a four-year-old boy at Cherish English Kindergarten, in Belchers Street, Western. Ng Siu-wai, 34, of Kowloon City, was charged with wilfully assaulting a child on June 16 and 17. Her case was adjourned to November 16 in Eastern Court pending a pretrial review. She was released on $1,000 bail.

stolen cars found

Five of six cars reported stolen from a garage in Yuen Long last Wednesday were found abandoned in Tuen Mun and Tai Po after the owner received an anonymous call. However, a Mercedes-Benz was still missing. Detectives said they suspected the thieves received a payoff.

400 pupils evacuated

About 400 pupils were evacuated from Yaumati Kaifong Welfare Association School when a compressed air machine burst into flames in an adjacent construction site in Yau Ma Tei about 10.30am.

woman run down

An alleged drunk driver was arrested after his car knocked down a woman in Kowloon City. The woman was crossing Kowloon City Road when she was hit about 7.30am. She was treated for minor injuries.

Falling window hits taxi

A window fell off its hinges, plunged 15 floors and smashed into a taxi in Baker Street, Hunghom, about 10am. Police said the roof of the cab was damaged but its driver, 70, was unhurt.

There was no winner of last night's draw, so $15,285,509 jackpots to tomorrow's draw. The numbers were 6, 24, 30, 43, 44 and 45. The extra number was 11. Three tickets each won second prize of $722,590. Third prize paid $64,950.
