Hard sell in Germany

EASTERN German land put on the market by the Treuhand agency is proving a tough sell, a senior banker involved in privatising former East German state property has said.

There were buyers for land away from the Baltic coast in Mecklenburg-West Pommerania, in northern Brandenburg and southeastern Saxony, said Ulrich Swienteck, head of the Deutsche Bank's real estate subsididary, DB Immobilien.

DB Immobilien has sold 270 Treuhand properties for 430 million deutschemarks (about HK$2 billion).
