JOS tailors IT services to suit corporate needs

Information technology services provider Jardine OneSolution (JOS) has launched a new range of professional IT offerings called Spectrum. JOS group director Owen Ho Hai-ki said Spectrum comprised a number of discrete managed IT services - typically sold as a single, comprehensive package to large firms - made more affordable and flexible to suit small firms but with the same service-level agreements that come standard with pricier contracts. Spectrum services available at present include Access Points, which provides 24-hour desktop and local area network support, and InfoSafe Tape Management Service, for data backup. JOS is offering Spectrum through pre-purchased service units, known as 'points'. The minimum number that a company can buy is 25 points, worth $11,250. Mr Ho said: 'Each service is designed to offer a specific set of benefits and features to an organisation. Customers can select one, several or all of the services depending on their unique needs.' Research firm Gartner said the Hong Kong IT services market remained focused on network security enhancement, network infrastructure management, applications integration and e-business.

Benefon joins forces with China Putain in telematics

Finnish firm Benefon and Beijing electronics manufacturer China Putian have formed a strategic partnership to develop and market telematics systems for the worldwide car manufacturing industry. Telematics refers to a combination of various computing and wireless technologies built inside cars. That infrastructure enables telematics services such as vehicle diagnostics, location-based safety and security systems, satellite-based navigation aids, internet and e-mail access and digital entertainment. Benefon's deal with China Putian will allow it to manufacture its wireless, global positioning system-based telematics equipment in the mainland, where a growing car industry could create a large domestic market for telematics gear and services.

'The combined efforts of these two companies will provide a powerful framework that will allow us to capitalise on opportunities around the globe,' Benefon chairman Brian Katzen said. A recent report from Business Communications Company estimated that the global demand for telematics hardware and services would create a worldwide market worth US$6.5 billion by 2008.
