Brit & Ben is a cosy little shop on Staunton Street that sells an interesting, eclectic mix of products: pastries, breads, furniture and all-natural health and beauty products imported from Thailand. Former architect Gabrielle Chan originally started sourcing the skin-care products to alleviate the allergies of her two sons (the eponymous Brit and Ben). She decided to sell the products at the shop, which was previously a Chinese medicine store. The 700-square-foot space was just big enough to expand into serving food, so Chan began baking breads and desserts, which are made primarily from all-natural and organic ingredients. Bakery items include croissants, focaccia, apple crumble, chocolate mud cake and cheesecakes. The lunch menu has mostly sandwiches, but the dinner menu includes smoked duck farfalle, lamb chops and duck liver with port wine sauce. Brit & Ben, 49 Staunton Street, Central, tel: 3579 2062.
