Special unit to hunt down car racers
An intelligence unit has been set up to gather information and track down illegal car racers.
The Traffic Intelligence Co-ordination Group was formed in September and is modelled on the Criminal Intelligence Bureau.
'We find our crime intelligence unit works very well and we hope that by setting up an intelligence unit on traffic, we can be more efficient in deploying manpower in different districts to deal with illegal racing,' traffic branch headquarters Chief Inspector Chau Ying-yu said.
'For example, if officers in North New Territories receive a tip-off about illegal racing in their district, offices in other districts could also co-operate.' He said this was the peak season for illegal road racers as the Macau Grand Prix was approaching.
