Woo paints rosy employment picture
The mainland's free-trade arrangement with Hong Kong and its liberalised travel policy should boost the city's employment rate, according to Trade Development Council chairman Peter Woo Kwong-ching.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the World SME Expo at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre yesterday, Mr Woo said the mainland's relaxation of investment restrictions on enterprises should generate more than enough jobs in Hong Kong to offset the number of unemployed, which stands at 250,000 to 280,000.
The World SME Expo has attracted about 1,000 visitors representing foreign companies and 3,500 representatives from mainland firms. There are more than 330 exhibitors from Hong Kong, the mainland and overseas.
