Trainees on the Youth Self-employment Scheme will get a chance tomorrow to show the public what they have achieved in the six months since the programme was launched.

The Labour Department, which started the scheme in May to help young people become self-employed or set up as freelancers, will host a free market with 36 booths at East Point Road Pedestrian Precinct, in Causeway Bay, on Saturday from 3pm to 10pm.

The trainees will demonstrate the skills they have learned, such as hairstyling, make-up, magic and gardening. The event will also offer the trainees an opportunity to seek business from the public.

'Many young people hope to have their own business, but they lack the opportunity to seek clients. This is exactly why we want to help them,' said programme director Cindy Yim Lai-kwan.
