Seven sentenced to death for drugs in one day

At least seven people were sentenced to death in one day last week on drug-related charges, Xinhua reported. A photograph published by the Beijing Morning Post showed Tang Mei, Zhao Haiying, Yu Xiaoqin and Zhu Guangmei bursting into tears as their death sentences were announced by the court in Chengdu on Thursday. They were convicted of transporting 900 grams of heroin in pill form hidden inside their bodies.

Another Xinhua report said an intermediate court in Xian had also condemned three drug traffickers to death. A fourth was given a suspended death sentence.
