Police to set up central database

Police plan to set up a central database on family violence cases to help exchange information and provide a foundation for a new training programme.

Commissioner Dick Lee Ming-kwai said police were looking at ways to put the information into the data system used by all police stations.

'We hope we can put the data in so that our investigators can look into the backgrounds of the victims and culprits,' he said.

Mr Lee said there was no time schedule for the system but it was on the top of his priority list.

Meanwhile, officers have started a training programme on family violence. The programme will run for at least 12 months.
