Thousands join rope-skipping event to set new world record

A TOTAL of 2,007 young people, including local athletes and Canto-pop stars, broke the Guinness world record last Saturday for the most people to skip rope simultaneously.

The attempt was made on World Children's Day at Victoria Park to raise funds for charities supported by the fast-food chain McDonald's and other children's causes.

The event aimed to raise public awareness of child welfare and to encourage the public to develop an active and balanced lifestyle.

Top athletes Chiang Wai-hung, Tang Hon-sing, Chung Kwok-leung and Caroline Chiu were joined by Canto-pop duo 2R in rope skipping, supervised by well-known personalities including Unicef Hong Kong committee vice-chairman Anson Chan Fang On-sang, Unicef Goodwill Ambassador Leon Lai Ming and Hong Kong Sports Federation & Olympic Committee president Timothy Fok Tsun-ting.
