FCUK Safely. Get the message? It's the title of this year's World Aids Day launch party next Tuesday night that promises to be in your face and a shock to your senses.
Prepare to be frisked by the Safe Sex Police, get your kicks with the dancers for dollars and groove to the beats of DJs Janva, Nathan G and Yeodie at Dragon-i. But there is only room for 500 people and tickets are selling fast. Venus von Trapp and Diva D, who will be the MC for the evening, are part of the House of Siren Productions' lineup.
'The theme is in celebration of this year's wonderful title and in celebration of the great in-your-face, kind-of-like let's get the message across,' says Greg Durham, founder of House of Siren.
'It's clubby, it's funky and because we're working in probably one of Hong Kong's most outrageous nightclubs for the things that go on, we want to create an entertainment programme where we could take things beyond Hong Kong's imagination ... we just want to go 'Let's go crazy' and we've got a great night to do it for a great cause,' he says.
'So, we're basically taking our inspiration from a person who was very famous and who actually had HIV and died of Aids in the 1990s - his name was Leigh Bowery.'
Bowery was the host of famed London hotspot Club Taboo, where celebrities such as fashion designer John Galliano, Boy George and other pop stars of the 80s hung out.
'He was basically the first person to bring performance art into a really sort of confrontational and outrageous way that really challenged and confronted people's ideas and the way they saw things and really made people stop and think about things,' Durham says.
'Consequently our mission is to stop and make people think about Aids, particularly now that many people are getting lax about it.'
The World Aids Day awareness campaign begins on December 1 and ends on January 1. Other events, apart from the launch party, include the Red Ribbon Angels campaign - for which bars and restaurants make donations to Aids Concern and accept donation boxes with red ribbons and safe sex kits - and condom distribution day tomorrow in Causeway Bay.
