Destiny's Child

Destiny Fulfilled

(Sony)

You aren't going to get anything new on this, Destiny's Child's sixth album. Destiny Fulfilled has the R&B harmonies the threesome are known for, opportunities for Beyonce's distinctive voice to soar and the guest appearance of some muscle in the form of T.I and Lil' Wayne on Soldier.

But none of it works with the same success as their last album, Survivor (2001), that sold 10 million copies. Destiny's Child have long been known as Beyonce Knowles and the other two, and since Survivor, the three have pursued solo projects.

Beyonce's success and superstar status led many to believe the group might have run their course. But the outfit that have shifted more than 40 million records worldwide are back. Destiny Fulfilled gives equal treatment to Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams as all three take turns to handle the vocal leads and take executive production credits along with their manager and Beyonce's father, Mathew Knowles.

Billed as the story of a woman falling in and out of love, the album opens promisingly with the raunchy Lose My Breath, which was a US No1 and British No2, before plodding on to Soldier and descending into Cater 2 U, where the girls take it in turn to offer services to their man which include 'let me run your bathwater', 'I'll keep my figure right' and 'your wish is my command'. Modern women indeed. Fortunately, the album picks up with Girl and the silky superlative Through With Love. Disappointing then that the whole affair falls flat with the insipid Love.
