What would you get your nearest and dearest if you could give them anything for Christmas? Six influential people share their dream ideas

Michael Wong

The Shanghai-born actor has made a splash in the local and Asian film industry, with more than 50 films under his belt. He lives in Hong Kong with his supermodel wife, Janet Ma.

'My Christmas gift list is very simple. I would buy all my loved ones their own new iMac G5 with iChat and a mini iPod. To me, those are the two most perfect gifts you could give anyone. In fact, I'd give them to the whole world if I were rich.'

Tansy Lau

This new mum and ex-Fendi executive continues to make waves in the fashion industry, representing big brands such as Diane von Furstenberg in Asia. She is also planning to release her own cashmere collection later next year.

'For my 13-month-old baby I would love to get a big toy house. All he does these days is play house. He loves going in and shutting the door behind him. I'd also buy him a new cashmere blanket because it is so soft. If I could have anything for my husband it would be the baseball with which Barry Bonds (of the San Francisco Giants baseball team) scored his 700th home run. Of course, it would have to be signed! My dad needs a laptop so he can get online and I will give my mum, who's sentimental, a family portrait. For all my dear girlfriends who have given birth or are pregnant, a Sharper Image baby monitor with a TV screen is indispensable. They save you from getting up all night to check on the baby. And finally, for my two dogs: nice Christmas outfits so they can look cool in the family portrait.'

Sin Sin

The designer and fine art collector has an atelier in Hong Kong where she sells her clothes and jewellery. She also has her own art gallery, which showcases pieces from

up-and-coming artists.

'I would give my family a trip to Bali, where we would stay at my villas [Villa Sin Sin] to reminisce and spend quality time together. For my close friends, I would like to share my passion and creativity by giving them something I have designed, such as a hand-knit sweater or a piece of handmade jewellery. For my other good friends who are busy and don't have time to get out of town, a treatment at Plateau in the Grand Hyatt would help them unwind and forget about stress and sore muscles.

I would give my mentor a painting from the Sin Sin Fine Art collection. My favourite artists are Caroline Chiu and Julia Nee. I find art very personal but also meaningful. For my loved one, an Audemars Piguet watch is a precious gift only for someone special.'

Lulu Cheung

The celebrated fashion designer is also a keen sportswoman who loves swimming, badminton and tennis.

'For me and my mum I would splash out on two air tickets to Bali for the Christmas vacation. I love Bali. I'd give my nieces two new tennis rackets because they love sport. My personal assistant adores handbags, so I would get her an evening bag from Japanese designer Tsumori Chisato. For my design assistant I'd get a copy of the best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown.'

Grant Thatcher

The publishing editor of the popular Luxe City Guides has just released editions on Sydney, Tokyo, Sri Lanka and Shanghai. A widely travelled writer, he has lived in Hong Kong and Bangkok, and says he has no plans to stop moving.

'For my partner, a 1960 Mercedes 190SL would be most acceptable. I would love to give my mother a huge bottle of Ombre Rose by Brosseau - but I think it has been discontinued. Serge Lutens' Datura Noir from Aedes de Venustas in New York smells divine (www.aedes.com) and makes a good alternative. My dad needs noise reduction headphones for zoning out on planes. A net-a-porter.com gift voucher would be perfect for my sister, and my brother would love a big-collared men's shirt from the Colleoni collection in Singapore (by appointment only - for inquiries, tel 65 9835 1845). For me, a week at Uma Ubud [in Bali] is ultimate bliss.'

Dimitri Gouten

The managing director of Piaget Asia Pacific lives in Hong Kong with his wife and children. His love for all things Asian started during his secondary school years at an international school in Hong Kong.

'The five human senses are the theme behind my Christmas gift choices. For my beloved wife it has to be Piaget's latest Limelight jewellery watch, which is beautiful to look at. For my two-year-old daughter, who loves to touch things, a sandbox is the best place for her to continue her exploration. My father loves Asian delicacies so only Wudong Huang ji-Xiang [the best Chinese tea] will do. For my mother, who will travel hours from Paris to Hong Kong to be with us, a divine-smelling aromatherapy treatment at Plateau in the Grand Hyatt would be perfect. And finally, for my brother who loves to listen to music, the latest Bang & Olufsen BeoLab 3 speakers.'
