Huge crowd expected to pay final tribute

Mourners and fans who want to pay their last tributes to celebrated Canto-pop song writer James Wong Jim at a public memorial service tomorrow may have to wait their turn outside the Hong Kong Stadium, as huge crowds are expected.

Entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and no tickets will be issued. The service is scheduled to begin at 3pm and end at 4:30pm, depending on turnout.

Members of the public must wait outside in case the stadium is filled to capacity.

White flowers and booklets containing photos of Wong, his works and a biography will be distributed. Songs written by Wong will be played during the memorial service. Wong, 64, died of lung cancer 10 days ago.

A police spokesman said streets around Hong Kong Stadium would be sealed off to control the large crowds.

A hotline has been set up, and members of the public can call 28885000 to learn details about the event.
