Douglas Whyte mounted an unlikely 11th hour surge in the World Super Jockeys Series in Japan to finish tied for the championship with German Andreas Suborics yesterday.

The first ever tied result in the Hanshin feature came about after Whyte's last ride in the series when Brian's Letter won the Golden Boots race at 45-1 to earn him maximum points. 'It's quite incredible,' he said. 'I thought I had shot all my bullets on the first day. I thought that was probably it, but today my two slowest rides on paper returned a fifth and then a winner.'
