Applicants for US visas urged to apply online
Applicants for non-immigrant visas to enter the United States are being urged to fill out applications online before going to the consulate. Those who do not take advantage of the service, launched in September, will, from January 10, be allowed to make appointments with the consulate for interviews in connection with their applications only on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The electronic visa application form, or e-VAF, is available on the US consulate's website http://hongkong.usconsulate.gov. Applicants must print out the form once they have filled it in and take it with them for their interview. Those who apply through e-VAF can make appointments for an interview on any weekday. Michelle Gidaspova, who heads the consulate's immigrant visa unit, said it received 62,072 applications for non-immigrant visa in the year to September 30, up from 55,162 the year before.
