The Dictator

On style, she rules

Where can I buy vitamin E oil? I don't want any fancy creams, just the oil. I used to buy it at drugstores back home, but I can't find it here.

Oil For One, Yau Ma Tei

The Dictator rules: You're not in Kansas any more. It's doubtful the oil form works better than the cream but, even in Hong Kong, you can continue pretending to be simple and unpretentious. Purveyor of alternative health products, Health Gate (8/F, Hung Tak Building, 106 Des Voeux Road, Central, tel: 2545 2286), sells vitamin E oil by United States brand Jason ($99). No one seems to be paying attention, but I mention Fanda (shop B, G/F, World Wide House, 19 Des Voeux Road, Central, tel: 2311 6168) frequently because it always comes through, this time with Pharma Pure vitamin E oil ($98). You'll definitely love the gel version sold at Green Concept Health Shop (2/F, 54 Jardine's Bazaar, Causeway Bay, tel: 2882 4848), if only for its name - Puritan's Pride ($150). Oils are best applied immediately after a shower then left to soak in before dressing, unless you like the greasy chef look.

I'm bigger and want one of those skirts that go down to the knee and have an extra bit of fabric at the bottom like a frill to make me look sexy.

Frill Seeker, Fortress Hill

The Dictator: Bigger than what? This kind of skirt, narrow at the waist, hips and thighs but flaring out at the knees, would make a toothpick look curvy. At Louis Vuitton (shop B1, The Landmark, Central, tel: 2523 2915), you'll find that style in seasonal red or blue woollen tartan ($7,190), chic black ($6,690) and an outlandish white wool with black netting peeking out the bottom ($9,400). Loewe's black woollen version has a band of leather separating skirt from frill ($6,300; The Landmark, tel: 2522 0996), while at EQ:IQ you'll find more reasonably priced ones in pink or beige made of leather ($3,200). If you'd prefer to give that money to charity, then see the selection at Zara (shop 1065, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 7305) in pleated black sparkle tweed ($629), with lace and ribbon trim ($379) and glam chiffon, lace and sequins ($779). Make sure you are equipped with nice calves and leg-elongating heels before buying. Otherwise, catching your reflection in a window will be a nasty shock.

Even though I have shapely legs, they are infested with ingrown hairs and shaving bumps. Are there any products to treat this problem without resorting to permanent hair removal?

Hair Today, Tung Chung

The Dictator: The shape of your legs does not determine their propensity to develop ingrown hairs. You need to exfoliate and moisturise because dead skin makes the hairs turn inwards. A popular potion is Tend Skin, made with exfoliating acetylsalicylate, but it's only available online ($156; www.blissworld.com). Look for products geared towards men such as Shave Creme by MD Formulations, which is made with soothing botanicals and a salicylic compound to moisturise and battle bumps (about $195; call Cosbel Le Specialiste, tel: 2838 2267 for a retailer near you), or Smooth Shave foaming gel by Clarins ($120; shop 210, Central Building, 1 Pedder Street, Central, tel: 2810 9938). After shaving, try the lightweight Razor Burn Relief Ultra lotion by LAB Series ($280; Lane Crawford, IFC Mall, tel: 2118 3388) or Lancome's Ultra-Soothing After-Shave Balm ($240; Lancome Boutique, shop 1092, IFC Mall, tel: 2869 7518).
