THE Peninsula's general manager Felix Bieger will step down from his post in February next year after almost 40 years with the group.

The Peninsula group president Onno Poortier said: ''Felix Bieger has, for some time now, expressed his wish to withdraw from the operations and it has been mutually agreed that the most appropriate time would be upon the completion of the Peninsula extension project.

''We very much regret losing this celebrated hotelier from the helm of our flagship but fully appreciate his decision after so many years of service to this great hotel.'' Mr Bieger will celebrate his 40th anniversary with the company next year.

He will maintain ties with the group as he will continue to serve it as ''goodwill ambassador'' at international travel trade functions following his departure from the group.

Mr Bieger is succeeded by Peter Borer.
