ITALIAN OPERA
La Traviata will be staged from Friday to January 4 at 7.30pm in the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
Based on the play La Dame aux Camelias by Alexandre Dumas fils, La Traviata, with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, presents a love story which defies the boundaries of social class. Set in mid-19th century France, the opera challenges social conventions of the day.
The performance features sopranos Olga Mykytenko and Eteri Lamoris, the Opera Hong Kong Chorus, The Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Hong Kong Dance Company.
The opera will be performed in Italian with Chinese and English surtitles. Tickets cost $680, $540, $400, $260 and $120, with half-price concessions for students, and are available from Urbtix on 2734 9009.
ART EXHIBITION
A group exhibition called Ying Yang, which features recent works of local artists, is now on until January 15 at Kaleidoscope Kreations (3rd Floor, 13-14 Lan Kwai Fong, Central).
The exhibition showcases the creative talents of both established and promising artists, including Almond Chu, Michael Cheung, David Lister and Julia Tang, who balance tradition with modernity. Their works include paintings, photographs, functional sculptures, illustrations and print.

ORIGINAL INDIE
A group of local indie musicians will wrap up 2004 with their original compositions on New Year's Eve.
The participating musicians include singer-songwriters Ketchup, Garlum, the electronic group Vibration, Hard Candy and Hei Wong.
The concert will take place at the Fringe Club tomorrow at 10.30pm. Admission fee is $80 including one drink. For more information call 2396 2608.
