Vice-president of Games agency named
State Councillor Chen Zhili has been named the first vice-president of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.
In the latest reshuffle of the committee leadership, announced by the State Council, Beijing party chief Liu Qi retains the presidency, the China News Service reported.
Ms Chen was education minister before being named a state councillor in March, 2003.
She is expected to play a leading role in co-ordinating Olympic preparations by government departments. There has been speculation of a rift between the Beijing municipal government and the General Administration of Sports.
Liu Peng , who recently took over as sports administration director, has become an executive president of the Beijing organising committee. Beijing Mayor Wang Qishan and Deng Pufang , son of late leader Deng Xiaoping and president of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, retained their posts as the other two executive presidents.
Sources said the other changes in the line-up of Beijing Olympic organisers was that committee vice-president Wang Wei , vice-secretary-general of the Beijing Municipal Government, had moved up from No8 to No3 among the 10 vice-presidents.
