A COMPANY awarded record damages of more than $131 million for land resumption is seeking to have the amount increased by the Court of Appeal.

Hong Kong's longest civil case before Mr Justice Rhind lasted 263 days after which an 833-page judgment was handed down in June last year.

The judge, as President of the Lands Tribunal, had been asked to decide how much compensation Shun Fung Ironworks Ltd should be given by the Government because its land in Junk Bay was resumed for part of a new town development.

Shun Fung had claimed about $900 million, but the Government's estimates were around $100 million.

The appeal, before Vice-President Mr Justice Power, Mr Justice Nazareth and Mr Justice Litton, is expected to last about a month.
