Assault victim receives a gruesome calling card

An assault victim due to attend an identity parade to point out her alleged attacker awoke yesterday to find the head of a goat hanging from the security gate of her public housing unit in Ap Lei Chau.

The gruesome threat was the third such warning in two months, a police source said. In the previous two incidents, the front door of the 24-year-old woman's unit had been daubed with paint, and the security gate had been locked with a bicycle chain.

It is understood no threatening call or letter had been made to her before the three incidents.

The woman was woken yesterday by a loud noise at about 5am. She lives with her parents and younger sister, but they were not at home at the time of the incident. She telephoned a friend and then opened the door to find the goat head hanging from the security gate when her friend arrived, a police spokeswoman said.

The woman then called police. Officers made a search of the area but no one was arrested.

Last night detectives from Aberdeen police station were checking the footage of closed-circuit television.

'It is unlikely that the unit was targeted by mistake. We are looking into whether the case is linked with the victim's assault case,' the police source said.

The assault is understood to have taken place several months ago.
