Angels of goodwill
About 300 guests gathered in the name of goodwill for the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth's 35th anniversary charity gala dinner.
The fundraising event was held in the Grand Hyatt ballroom just before Christmas, and featured an antique watch auction and renowned pianist Kong Xiang-dong.
Betty Tung Chiu Hung-ping - the guest of honour, who took time out from a busy schedule with her husband, Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa - gave a warm speech and encouraged the guests to give generously.
Former Miss Hong Kong Isabella Kau Hung-ping, Winnie Mok Wah-lun, Charles Yang Chuen-liang, Yumiko Kuok and David Harilela were among the guests. Angels decorated each table, and Kong's eclectic piano recital was a highlight that kept guests enthralled.
Dennis Mui Kuen-lin donated 21 antique watches for the auction, which raised $260,000. The dinner raised $900,000, but the federation is still counting donations from the evening.
