A lion dance and dragon dance contest will be held this weekend to promote the beauty of traditional Chinese culture in Hong Kong.

The 3D-Gold World Hong Kong Luminous Dragon Dance and Lion Dance Championship is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Association and the Hong Kong Cultural Association. It is sponsored by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and 3D-Gold company.

The lion and dragon dances are among the most common customs in Chinese tradition which are performed to celebrate festivals or other important ceremonies. More than 20 teams from Hong Kong, China, Japan, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand and Macau will take part in the event.

The competition will take place at the Hong Kong Coliseum on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets priced at $150, $50, $30 and $10 are available from Urbtix. More details on 2534 5047.
