More than 800 elderly people participate in a tai chi event at Chinese University in Sha Tin, part of a community project.

About 40 per cent of the elderly say their health improved after they started practising tai chi, a study has found.

The study interviewed 359 people from 18 elderly centres before and after joining Tai Chi for Healthy Ageing - Community Collaboration Project, sponsored by the Chinese University and Yan Chai Hospital.

Of those interviewed by the university between May and December last year, 42 per cent said they were in better health than before joining the programme.
