ABSURD DRAMA

Local theatre group Prospect Theatre Company will stage an absurd Cantonese drama The Penguin.

Directed by Lee Kwok-wai and written by Leung Ka-kit, the story revolves around a columnist who writes obituaries for a living.

But his obituary predictions begin to come true after he adopts a sick penguin from the zoo.

He and his pet embark on a strange journey to investigate the mystery.

The performance will be staged tomorrow at 8pm and on Sunday at 3pm in the Tuen Mun Town Hall .

DRAGON DANCE

Dragon and lion dance troupes will compete at the World Hong Kong Luminous Dragon Dance and Lion Dance Championships 2005. The competition will be held tomorrow from 10.30am to 11pm and on Sunday from 7pm to 11pm at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

The biennial event is organised by the Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Association. Tickets priced at $150, $50, $30 and $10, are available from Urbtix.

VIOLIN CONCERT

Award-winning Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid will make his Hong Kong debut under the baton of Yip Wing-sie with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in The Singing Violin concert.

Schmid will perform Mozart's Violin Concerto No 2 in D and Paganini's The Concerto in One Movement. The orchestra will also play Respighi's Trittico Botticelliano and Mendelssohn's Symphony No 4.

The concert will take place tonight at 8.15pm in the Lyric Theatre of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Tickets cost $200, $140 and $100, with half-price concessions for students, and can be purchased from HK Ticketing on 31 288 288.
