Australian designer Helen Kontouris describes her enormous La La lamps as voluptuous and playful. She wanted the 'talking lamps', designed with large open 'mouths', to hold their own alone or look good in a cluster. Making them the size of an average human helped to achieve her aims. The lamps, available from E'z design (tel: 6420 8560; www.ez-design.org) in adult (180cm; $9,800) and child (130cm; $7,800) sizes, have sensual angles that beg for attention. Covered in linen, they come in a variety of colours: red, navy blue, white, orange, black, pink and lime green.
