Every dog has its day, or not

Photographers and reporters swarmed the SPCA last week when Gigi Lai Chi adopted a mongrel puppy named Chocolate (pictured), but CitySeen learned that the willowy actress slipped in a day or two later, sans paparazzi, to return the poor pup.

According to Lai, her seven-year-old Pomeranian at home was in no mood for competition and was not very friendly towards baby Chocolate. An SPCA spokesman suggests clients who have dogs at home but wish to adopt another should bring their dogs to the centres for a meet-and-greet session.

Lai joined the star team of Animal Ambassadors last week in the hope of promoting kindness to animals.

'We have to be kind to animals. We should treat them like little humans because they have a sense of self,' she said in a television interview.

'They have feelings just like us and we should treat them with all the love and kindness possible.'

The SPCA is still waiting for Lai to return with her Pomeranian to pick another dog.
