Tuen Mun inconvenient

MAY I urge that the Public Records Office be moved to the old South Kowloon Magistracy instead of the proposed site in an industrial building in Tuen Mun? I did much of the historical research for my forthcoming book on Hong Kong's Indian communities at the Hong Kong Public Records Office.

The office contains an excellent collection which needs to be readily available to the public. A Tuen Mun industrial building would be inconvenient and would not adequately protect valuable material. The former South Kowloon Magistracy would be a far better location. It is a dignified historic building, which meets UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) requirements for the care of archival material away from industrial areas. I hope the South Kowloon Magistracy will be seriously considered as the new home for the Public Records Office.
