Man raped daughter then forced her to take morning-after pill

A father who forced his 14-year-old mainland daughter to take a morning-after contraceptive pill after raping her was jailed for six years and eight months yesterday.

Deputy High Court judge Derek Pang Wai-cheong described the father, 50, as a bully and a 'destructive horror' who had wrecked his daughter's life. The father, a decoration and construction worker, admitted one count of rape, and a second was left on file.

Judge Pang read out a psychological report on the daughter that said she suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder and had suicidal tendencies after the attack.

The court heard the girl, from the man's first marriage, had just come to Hong Kong to be reunited with him when he attacked her at their Chai Wan home in August 2001.

The father later took his daughter back to the mainland and took her travel documents to ensure she could not report to police, the court heard. She told her mother what had happened.

The victim managed to get new travel documents and returned to Hong Kong in January last year, when she went to the police.

Judge Pang said the offence was 'premeditated and well thought-out', as the father had forced his daughter to take a morning-after pill.

'The victim was emotionally unstable and disturbed,' he quoted the report as saying.

'She saw herself as dirty and felt that no one could protect her from her father, including her family members and the police ... she stares into the air for hours [at a time] and cannot concentrate.'

Her self-image and ability to think were severely damaged, affecting her memory and school performance.

She needed intensive psychiatric treatment for at least three years, according to the report.

'You have wrecked your daughter's life,' Judge Pang told the father.

The hardships he had faced during the Cultural Revolution were no excuse to attack his own daughter.
