Slap traffic ban on parts of trail

RECENT articles about the up-coming Trailwalk caught my attention, and I wonder how many of your readers recognise that this is possibly the last opportunity to participate in this tradition.

Section two of the MacLehose Trail, near Tai Long Beach, is under danger of becoming not a pleasant trail for walking in the unspoiled Hong Kong countryside, but a highway.

Perhaps Legco should take up the issue of preserving this rarest of all Hong Kong commodities: the great outdoors. Perhaps Legco should consider passing a law banning vehicles on parts of the MacLehose Trail that are not already open to traffic, and proscribing the construction of roads where there are only walking paths. In any event, I urge everyone to come out and enjoy what may well be the last Trailwalk.
