On style, she rules
I saw a celebrity wearing gold eye-liner and no eye-shadow. She had applied only a little and it looked really cool. Where can I buy some?

The Dictator rules: How old are you? Twelve? When are you going to learn that starlet styling doesn't always translate into real life, especially if you're following Christina Aguilera's lead. They have professionals to help them with their make-up. Gold eye make-up ranges from pale yellow, prone to resemble advanced conjunctivitis, to flattering bronze. Sonia Rykiel solves the problem with a different gold tone on either end of its eye-pencil ($144; Sa Sa, 38 Russell Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2451 1088). Go for a medium gold like MAC's metallic gold eye-pencil ($120; MAC, shop UG43, Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong, tel: 2265 7218). If you can handle it, go for the popular liquid eye-liner by Nars in Showgirl gold. The eye-liner comes with a brush ($260; Nars, shop B3, The Landmark, Central, tel: 2523 3805). I'll admit, gold eye-liner could look good worn with brown eye-shadow after the sun's gone down ... in the dark.
As winter is subsiding, where can I find 'a jumper shaver' to shave bobbles off woollies? Nothing too expensive please!
Fuzzy Logic, Fanling
The Dictator: Wow, what a challenge. The complicated sourcing process: 1) Go to the household section of a department store. 2) ... Actually, that's all. If you had bothered to visit Wing On (211 Des Voeux Road Central, Sheung Wan, tel : 2852 1888) you would have found the battery-operated Fuzzaway Clothes Shaver by famous razor brand Remington ($79) in their electronics department. Near the sewing supplies and kitchen utensils in the basement, they also carry the old-fashioned de-pilling fabric comb made by Hemline ($6.50). A similar little electric shaver by reliable German cleaning-gadget brand can be found at Wanko ($59; Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2833 8338). I applaud your reluctance to contribute to the growing landfills, but let a truly grubby sweater die gracefully.
I love using the skincare range Phytomer and recently discovered their counter in Seibu, Pacific Place, has disappeared. Do you know if it is possible to buy it elsewhere in Hong Kong?
Sea the light, Pokfulam
The Dictator: Obviously you haven't looked hard enough, or at all. French skincare brand Phytomer is available at Faces (OT202, Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 3188 2108). It was founded in 1971 in Saint Malo (yeah, that would be France), where their laboratories are based. They specialise in 'marine cosmetology' - basically, beauty products made with stuff from the sea. Belief in the healing powers of the sea is nothing new (we even know someone who believes the waters off our shores help her eczema, but she's certifiable). In Hong Kong, you'll find Phytomer face and body products, but the men's line isn't here yet.
