Democrats receive Alex Ho's official resignation

The Democratic Party last night received disgraced district councillor Alex Ho Wai-to's official resignation from the party.

Mr Ho had earlier offered to resign after being detained in Dongguan , Guangdong, for hiring a prostitute, but the party's central committee made a surprise decision not to accept the offer on February 17. Two days later, Mr Ho said he could no longer remain as a party member.

Akers-Jones takes Discovery Bay blame

Sir David Akers-Jones said that although he had not been personally criticised in the Legislative Council's Public Accounts Committee inquiry into changes to the Discovery Bay development in the 1980s, he was nonetheless head of the land authorities then and ultimately had to take responsibility.

In his first public appearance since the report's release, the former secretary for the New Territories stressed that the decisions on the project had not been made by him alone.

Bids invited for ferry service to Disneyland

A licensed ferry service will operate from Central to Hong Kong Disneyland in Penny's Bay. The Transport Department is accepting bids until noon on March 29. The winner is expected to have a service ready by September 12 when the new theme park opens. Peak frequencies will be every 30 minutes.

Families should be reunited, says Bishop

The government should rebuild social harmony by helping to reunite separated families, Catholic Bishop Joseph Zen Ze-kiun said. In a campaign to lobby other religious leaders to pressure the government, Bishop Zen said the administration should allow 20 right-of-abode seekers to come to Hong Kong under the unused portion of the 150 daily quota to allow in settlers from the mainland on family reunion grounds. 'Chief Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen said people need to have more children. The time is right to reunite separated families,' he said.
