A unique opportunity to work for one of Hong Kong's two satellite operators has just appeared on the radar.

Asia's leading regional satellite operator, AsiaSat, wants to hire an assistant manager of customer affairs for its China office to help with the group's increasing activities on the mainland.

This position has two distinct aspects, according to Daniel Fung, AsiaSat's human resources and administration manager.

'One is to handle customer affairs, mainly organising different customer relations programmes both in China and Hong Kong,' Mr Fung said.

The other focused on marketing and communication, and included organising corporate advertising and newsletters, participation in trade exhibitions and sponsorship.

'The job holder will have the chance to work closely with major players from two booming industries in China - broadcasting and telecommunications,' Mr Fung added.

Candidates must offer excellent, ideally native, Putonghua and proven work experience in marketing communications.

While assimilation and on-the-job training is provided to new employees, AsiaSat also supports staff development through job enrichment programmes offered by approved external courses.

Is promotion likely? 'It is the company's philosophy to promote internally if a vacancy arises - external recruitment would be the last resort,' Mr Fung said.
