Why do girls always seem to take ages?
I have no idea.
Hey look, there they are. Finally!
Sorry we're so late! We missed the bus and had to wait ages for the next one.
All right, let's go.
OK, but you could at least tell us where we're going.
Yes ... all we were told was to turn up here for a surprise ... now what?
We told you it's a surprise! You'll just have to follow us and wait and see...
'Here it/he/she/you/they/we is/are' is a standard phrase we use quite often. However, have you noticed that the boy in the second picture uses 'there they are' instead? When you use a common phrase, sometimes you have to consider whether it suits the situation. When referring to the place where you are at, you use 'here'. But you should use 'there' to refer to a place that is away from you, a place that you are pointing to or looking at, to draw someone's attention to it. Since the boy is pointing at the girls who are at a distance from him, he uses 'there they are'.
1. Make an effort to be on time.
2. If you are late, apologise and explain why.
3. If the other person is late, accept the apology and don't dwell on it. Just have a good time.
